The Alec Dube Quartet kicks off the return of Jazz at the Taylor Theater, with music celebrating the legendary Modern Jazz Quartet. The concert will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 and marks the fifth in a series of seven programs in the 2018 Jazz at The Taylor concert series.
The show begins at 7:30 PM in the converted carriage house on the Kenan Center’s campus, providing an intimate, club-like atmosphere. The concert features two full sets of music with refreshments available.
The Modern Jazz Quartet was a popular, award-winning jazz combo that played music influenced by classical, cool jazz and bebop. Established in 1952 under the leadership of pianist and musical director John Lewis, the group specialized in elegant, restrained music that used sophisticated counterpoint while retaining a strong blues undertone. Milt Jackson, the band’s brilliant vibraphonist, was known for his superb improvisational abilities, which contributed to the band’s unique sound.
Alec Dube, who has performed both vibes and percussion at several sold-out shows, leads the quartet playing at the Taylor Theater.
Named “Vibraphonist of the Year” for the past three years by JazzBuffalo, Dube is an adjunct instructor of jazz at SUNY Fredonia and a teacher at Charter Middle School for Applied Technologies.
