Jazz lovers know that no one wrote an arranged music like Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington. The Ladies First Big Band & Combo, together with vocalist Donna Delano-Kerr, will perform Ellington’s work for a special night at the Hotel Henry Jazz Concert Series. The Ladies First Jazz Big Band, created by award-winning bassist Jennifer May, is a 16 piece all-female jazz ensemble. Featuring saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, flugelhorn, keyboards, bass and drums, this group delivers a rich, lively sound, the way this music was meant to be played and heard. Donna Delano-Kerr has been a prominent vocalist in the region and is well-known for her creation of the Buffalo Dolls. Ladies First Jazz Big Band together with The Buffalo Dolls was recently awarded the ‘Most Memorable Jazz Performance of 2018’ in the annual Jazz Buffalo Poll for their annual sell-out of “A Jazzy Christmas”. The Big Band and Combo have previously won the ‘Best Jazz Big Band,’ ‘Best Jazz Large Ensemble’ and ‘Best Small Jazz Group’ respectively, by the Buffalo Music Awards.
