Ava Savarino with Stu Weissman
Thursday, July 18 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm$8 – $10
Ava Savarino love of jazz started when at just 7 years old she heard Blossom Dearie’s rendition of “Let Me Love You”. Today, her repertoire, style, delivery, and maturity belies that she is still a high school student. She studies with jazz luminary Nancy Kelley, listens to a wide range of jazz, and expands her horizon to include blues influences as well. Ava has been invited to sit in with some of Buffalo and Rochester’s elite musicians, but this will be her first featured performance.
Stu Weissman has been a mainstay on the local music seen as a guitarist, band leader, former Adjunct instructor of Guitar at Buff State, and private teacher to many well known local instrumentalists. He nurtured the musical development of his sons Avery and Ethan who have established their own reputations. His career spans a 1974 engagement with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Ethel Merman on opening night at Art Park to backing up Grammy winning Tom Hambridge at the 2018 Silo City Blues Festival, and performs weekly at “The Sportsmens”. He is thrilled to work with and formally introduce Ava.
