Carolyn Lansom returns to Pausa this Fall, bringing her signature blend of jazz sophistication and genre-crossing artistry. Fresh off her acclaimed performance at the Northwest Jazz Festival’s Center Street Stage, she crafts each set thoughtfully, showcasing timeless standards alongside original arrangements that highlight her dynamic vocal range. In addition to the above, tonight’s quintet performance will feature curated cross-genre gems and a feature song for each band member.

A Niagara University theater graduate, Carolyn discovered jazz while living in Japan during her husband Dave Lansom’s Navy service. While in Japan, Carolyn tried her hand as a jazz singer and never stopped. Additionally, she maintains a position in the critically acclaimed choir of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Throughout her life, music has always been a part of her, thanks to her supportive family. Her influences are Norah Jones, Etta James, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and many more.

Why experience Carolyn Lansom live?

Her trio “Dozo My Lady” swept JazzBuffalo’s 2023/2025 “Favorite Jazz & Pop Group” polls, and has maintained a seven-year residency at Buffalo Distilling Company (2nd Fridays monthly).  While Carolyn herself earned “Most Memorable Performance” honors in 2024 as the vocalist for the group My Cousin Tone. The ensemble tonight includes JazzBuffalo’s 2024 “Jazz Pianist of the Year,”  Ian Liedke. Jamie Sunshine, an Adjunct Lecturer of percussion at Fredonia University, is a true talent on drums, as evidenced by the numerous groups she is a part of. Andy Peruzzini and Carolyn have shared the stage on numerous occasions. They’ve collaborated in Sugar Katy Cool (2016-2017) and My Cousin Tone, where Andy’s trumpet work complemented Carolyn’s voice beautifully. Lastly, Dave Lansom on bass has played for years and knows just how to hold down the low end to make the show just perfect.
