Celebrity Series of Boston at Home – Virtual Performances

Thursday, September 24, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

For 82 years, Boston has trusted Celebrity Series to present performing arts of the highest quality.  Though the concert landscape has changed, our commitment remains the same: to bring you great performances by extraordinary artists.

Now, we are excited to announce the new Fall 2020 Edition of Celebrity Series At Home, featuring a diverse lineup of 18 artists, with newly created, original content, just for Celebrity Series’ audiences.  We are delighted to present some of our favorite artists from our subscription series and Neighborhood Arts program. From the comfort of your home, you can explore and enjoy streamed performances of chamber music, solo piano, jazz, dance, folk, and more.

Some streaming concerts are free of charge and the rest are very reasonably priced. Make Celebrity Series At Home a part of your Fall arts experience – Both individual streaming performances and discounted packages are available now!  Scroll below to discover the performances, or if you already reserved your ticket, find your link to the performance viewing pages.

Remember King

Castle of our Skins — a collective of artists of all kinds dedicated to advancing Black artistry through music — remembers Dr. King’s legacy and his complicated life, and presents the most-performed works of two essential 20th-century American composers. Daniel Bernard Roumain’s String Quartet No. 2 (“King”) is a meditation on the recordings of phone calls between King and his mistresses and the women’s roles in shaping the Civil Rights Movement. George Walker’s Lyric for Strings is a poignant navigation of the space between pain and hope dedicated to Walker’s memories of his grandmother, who had been enslaved. Her grandson grew up to be the first Black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize for music and emerged as one of the most-honored American composers of the late 20th century.

Harp and Vibraphone duo

It’s an unlikely pairing of instruments — a harp and a vibraphone — but the extraordinary duo of Charles Overton and Julian Loida make it work so well. The two are frequent collaborators, and they weave their ethereal sounds together in music that crosses and combines styles: ambient, jazz, world, classical, and much more.
