Elliot Scozzaro Trio w/George Caldwell and Joe Goehle at Hotel Henry Summer Jazz Concert Series

Elliot Scozzaro is a saxophonist and educator from Buffalo. He received a Master of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, where he played lead alto saxophone in the seven-time Grammy-nominated One O’ Clock Lab Band. While at UNT, Scozzaro also served as a Teaching Fellow of Saxophone, directed the Five O’ Clock Lab Band, and studied under the notable Brad Leali.
Scozzaro was named a semi-finalist in the North American Saxophone Alliance Jazz Competition in 2016. Throughout 2018/2019, he played second alto saxophone in the renowned Glenn Miller Orchestra, directed by Nick Hilscher. Additionally, he has performed at the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival, the Northwest Jazz Festival, and the Columbus Jazz and Ribs Festival.
Elliot will be joined by George Caldwell on keyboards and Joe Goehle on bass.
George Caldwell is a fully tenured jazz piano legend who has served with the Count Basie Orchestra, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, as a sideman extraordinaire, and as leader of his own ensembles. Renowned as performer, composer, bandleader, and teacher, Caldwell served as the pianist for the Count Basie Orchestra when the group won a “Best Large Jazz Ensemble Performance” Grammy in 1996. At the University at Buffalo (UB), George is an instructor of Music Piano Performance and director of the Student Jazz Ensembles.
Joe Goehle is a versatile musician and creative composer within the greater NY area and beyond. Currently residing in Buffalo, NY, Joe can frequently be heard as a leader and sideman to a variety of groups. He is a founding member of the Buffalo Jazz Composers Workshop and performs frequently with several WNY jazz ensembles. Joe has performed at vaunted musical venues such as Blue Note NYC, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, and Zinc Bar, as well as performing at the Rochester Jazz Festival, Northwest Jazz Festival in Lewiston, NY, NYC Winter JazzFest, Kalamazoo Blues and Jazz Festival, and the Tall City Blues Festival. He holds a B.M. in Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and an M.M. in Jazz Performance from New York University, where he studied with notable bassists John Geggie and Drew Gress. Joe is currently the 7th-12th Grade Director of Orchestras in the Brockport Central School District.
