February 24th Jazz Tales welcomes Vocalist Imani Gonzalez

Imani is a professional jazz/world vocalist, artist educator, and author. Her diverse talents have led to collaborations with many national and international musical ensembles, recordings, film, and television projects. Most notably, Imani’s voice has been featured on many of the National Geographic Television’s Explorer Series soundtracks, including the Emmy-nominated film Jane Goodall: My Life with Chimpanzees.

Since 1989, Imani holds the distinction of being the first and only American who tours with the genuinely traditional Ghanaian ensemble Yacub Addy and ODADAA. She has had the honor of performing, touring, and recording with renowned artist Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for 8 consecutive years and has shared the stage with Stephon Harris, Wycliffe Gordan, Hilton Ruiz and Djimo Kouyate. She is a 2016 – 2021 Fellowship Grant recipient of the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities.

Imani has three CD’s to her credit with rave reviews including her latest entitled, Calling You. Imani is also a Resident Artist and Workshop Presenter with the Kennedy Center Partners-In-Education National Touring Program, and Teaching Artist with Washington Performing Arts.

This broadcast will spotlight the talents of a totally unique artist. Imani is not to be missed!
