Troy Brothers Organ Quintet at Buffalo Jazz Festival
Sunday, September 3 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
In this special HEADLINER performance for the Buffalo Jazz Festival, we reunite on stage two brothers and two premier saxophonists in a unique organ quintet! John Troy and the New York City-based Mike Troy!
Over the past two years, John Troy has established himself as one of our most enjoyable and sought-after saxophonists in the area, participating in numerous projects both as a sideman and with his own creative concepts. Before returning to the region, John honed his skills under the tutelage of Eric Alexander, one of the most prominent saxophonists in jazz today. He earned his degree from Purchase University and became an active part of the New York City jazz scene before the pandemic struck.
In the same time frame, Mike Troy, John’s brother, also moved to New York City and quickly became a fixture at renowned New York City venues like Smalls and The Jazz Gallery. He notably has contributed to Russell Hall’s Free Bird project and joined a prestigious ensemble that includes the award-winning vibraphonist Sasha Berliner.
Both John and Mike have not only performed extensively in New York but have also toured with esteemed artists such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Noah Barker, Nicholas Payton, and Regina Carter, among others.
Don’t miss this extraordinary FREE opportunity to witness the Troy Brothers, John, and Mike, perform together at this extraordinary event in their hometown! It promises to be an unforgettable moment of music and a celebration of their incredible talent as they perform in an organ quintet format!
The quintet will feature the fabulous rhythm section of Harry Graser on organ, Matt Michaud on guitar, and Alec Dube on drums.
Just witnessed history. The most awesome live set I’ve ever heard.
