Bossa Nova came to America like a cool but powerful force in the 60s era of blues-drenched pop, hard bop, and avant-garde jazz. It entered our consciousness through the music of Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd, Bud Shank, Sonny Rollins, and many others. Bossa was an expression of a relationship between Brazilian and American jazz of the 50s. It represented a “cooling’ of samba from carnival to coffeehouses. The Wazmopolitans will feature the music of originators of the music; Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto, who helped develop the music and bring it to the US, and others. Dave Wasik drums, Jack Kulp bass, Kevin Doyle piano.
